Cornelius Rubsamen is fresh off his 1st place finish at the 2002 State Championships. You would expect, he be given some respect. That was not the case. Emily Lau in what may have been her best tournament, claimed her first scalp of a State Open Champion in round 2, by beating Cornelius using a an attacking line against the Kings Indian. As many of you know Emily is one of Cornelius's students.

As the day went on Cornelius took out his revenge on the rest of his opponents.

Paul Iinuma our State High School Champion lost his game with Cornelius, but won his game with Emily causes the event to end with a 3-way tie for 1st place.

Because of computer problems and the number of participants in the beginners section, the beginners section event was halted. The beginners section proceeded to have open play for the rest of the evening.
